Michele Balfour, thanks again to you and Mrs. Cheryl Miller for the great work on
getting me the Internship with Volusia County Information Technology
Department.
I am very pleased with the opportunity it has provided me in order to get
some hands-on experience and also able to fulfill the requirements for the
AS degree. I will coordinate with Mr. Mike Pugh to ensure that future
opportunities remain available for other students.
Once again, thanks for the support.

On behalf of International Speedway Corporation, I would like to thank Advanced Technology College for choosing our company for their students to intern.
While I’m sure it has been a great opportunity for the student’s to intern with us, it has been just as great for the people here at ISC. We feel honored to be able to encourage kids to follow their dreams through hands on experience in the work field while attending the coop program. We hope to teach them and give them the knowledge necessary to achieve their career goals. With the interns help and knowledge, we have been able to increase our turnaround time on new computer system set ups to our sister tracks. They have also relieved a large amount of work load for our techs while they are traveling during our busy race season.
We wish all of the interns much success in their future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Melissa Wilson

Austin took control over three areas on our corporate network. First I
had him maintain our Kronos time clocks. He was to make sure that they
were all up and running in good order. He was able to do that. He
replaced roughly 10 of the 32 clocks that needed repair. Second, I had
him in charge of encrypting all of our wireless access points with WPA-2
encryption and made them available for me to manage them remotely
through a web interface. Third, he was in charge of making sure all of
our workstations were virus free and had the latest virus scanning
patterns installed. He did a wonderful job with all of his
responsibilities and was a tremendous help.
Thank you,

"Our ATC Coop student has provided our non-profit organization the
opportunity to have our IT needs supported while providing on the job
training and employment for a student who became an integral part of
establishing the technology systems for us. This student’s work led to
him becoming a permanent employee."

We've really enjoyed and benefited from our experience with ATC
students and are developing ways to further evolve the relationship each
semester. These students are very eager to learn and develop so quickly.
They are learning while assisting with real world projects. We're
cultivating great employees!

I would like to relate the impact that the ATC Coop Program has meant to me as an English professor at Daytona Beach Community College and the Advanced Technology College.
For the last three years, I have been working with Cheryl Miller and her students. They have created an artistic, scholarly Web site so that my students could access their assignments and syllabus from their home. Each year these students upgrade and update this site and demonstrate the technical skill that they possess while showing us the new web-making features.
Additionally, the students have helped take a variety of mediums such as video, audio, flash animation, and content-relevant educational DVD’s and compiled these various
recording systems to successfully inserted them on a Power Point to be shown for our faculty at the College.
This program has allowed the Community of Daytona Beach along with Volusia and Flagler County to hire highly skilled workers. Our students feel self confident because they are proud to intern or work in a substantial job they would like to apply for some day. Without our coop program, the business community in Volusia and Flagler County would have to resort to their former methods of attaining skilled employment: They would have to seek outside the State of Florida and spend unnecessary time and money to find jobs that could be better accessed right here in our state.
Thank you,
Jill Clark

The program gives students an awesome opportunity to see what happens in the daily operation of a fully functioning Information Technology Department. They quickly realize that the work they do each day is not always glorious. Although a select few students might go on to design video games or become the next Bill Gates most will have jobs that are full of stress and pressure like the rest of us. This the most valuable lesson a student can learn.

My son, Dane Sargeant, is a student at the Advanced Technology College (ATC) in
Daytona Beach, Florida. He was fortunate to be selected to participate in a co-op
this past summer sponsored by the National Science Foundation Grant. I believe this
was a valuable learning experience for him in his chosen field of study, Computer
Support and Repair. There is no substitute for real-life, hands-on experience and I feel
that he has gained valuable skills and knowledge through the internship he completed at
the International Speedway Corporation (ISC) in Daytona Beach. I am grateful to the
NSF and the ATC for allowing him this opportunity and believe it will benefit him
greatly in the future as he continues his education.
Thanks again for all you have done for him.

My son Chris Skelley attended the ATC during his junior and senior years of high school. While attending the ATC & enrolled in the Drafting & Design program, he was able to learn many valuable skills, that would certainly not have been available to him in an ordinary high school setting.
During his second year at the ATC, it was necessary for him to complete a Senior Project in order to complete the requirements needed to graduate. One of the options available to do this was to complete a Cooperative Education experience. We met with Cheryl Miller, who helped Chris obtain a coop with the City of Daytona Beach. This has proved to be a remarkable experience for Chris, as he has had the opportunity to apply the skills that he has learned at the ATC, actually working hands on with the City of Daytona Beach. He is producing CAD drawings from hand drawings using AutoCAD software, creating maps showing fiber optic cabling routes, and using CAD techniques to make blueprints of drawings. It has been amazing to see how directly the skills he has learned were applied to the workplace. It has proved to be such a great fit, that the City of Daytona has event kept him on to work part-time during the summer.
I commend ATC for the training and opportunities made available to their students.
Sincerely,
Diane M. Skelley
