Course Repeats & Full Cost of Instruction Charge

Actions by the Florida Legislature have required state supported colleges to implement rules affecting tuition and fees you might be required to pay, and how many times you will be allowed to take the same course. You need to be aware of these rules so you can avoid higher costs or problems with your grade point average. If you have experienced extenuating circumstances (such as a serious illness or the death of an immediate family member) that has affected your attendance or performance in a course or courses, you may want to investigate the possibility of an Academic Appeal.

Students are not permitted to repeat courses in which a grade of "C" or better was earned. This includes a grade of "C" or better transferred in from another institution.

Maximum attempts for full cost of instruction in each course

Students are permitted to enroll in the same college preparatory course or college credit course a maximum of three times. Students will be assessed 100 percent of the full cost of instruction on the third attempt unless the College grants a one-time exception to the student due to extenuating circumstances or financial hardship. Students are permitted to appeal to take a course a fourth time if the student did not successfully complete the 3rd attempt due to a major extenuating circumstance. Students must be assessed the full cost of instruction on the fourth attempt. There are no appeals to reduce the full cost assessment on the fourth attempt.  All grades from the third and subsequent attempts will be calculated in the student’s grade point average.

The full cost assessment is the equivalent of the non-resident tuition charges that are four times the resident rate. Additional fee information is available in the Financial Information section of the catalog, under Tuition, Fees and Refunds heading.
