2009-2010 Season Outlook
This season Daytona State College Basketball is ready to go to the next level. Falcon basketball has progressed in the classroom and is rebuilding the tradition of past championships. With all conference performers like Leke Lewu (FCCAA Mid-Florida All-Conference First Team; Mid-Florida Conference Scholar-Athlete Award and FCCAA “All-Academic” Team)), Reginald Gilbert (FCCAA Mid-Florida All-Conference Second Team), John Williams (FCCAA Mid-Florida All-Conference Second Team), and Ian Andre' (FCCAA Mid-Florida All-Conference Honorable Mention Team; Mid-Florida Conference Scholar-Athlete Award and FCCAA “All-Academic” Team) the foundation has been laid. A familiar face has resurfaced to the Falcon family. Frank Burnell who is a Stetson University Hall of Famer will bring additional experience to the coaching staff.
The Falcons lost several all conference players but have plenty of reserves. Returning players Ramone Jordan (Mid-Florida Conference Scholar-Athlete Award and FCCAA “All-Academic” Team), Eric Valentin (Mid-Florida Conference Scholar-Athlete Award and FCCAA “All-Academic” Team), and red shirt freshman Jeremiah Hughley (2009-10 Daytona State College Dean’s List Student) will provide much needed experience.
The Falcons, on the verge of turning the corner this past season, reloaded with a talented freshman class. Newcomers include Marquise Glaze, Sidney Lanier H.S.’s MVP from Montgomery, AL also was named 1st Team 6A All State. Terrance Noel the Westover H.S. Region 3A Player of the Year from Albany, GA was selected 2nd Team 3A All State. Deshaun Winfield from Apalachicola, FL earned 1st Team 2A All State. He helped lead Franklin County H.S. to their 4th straight 2A State Championship. Regan O’Rourke from Clearwater, FL was selected MVP of the Kingdom of the Sun Tournament. He was Clearwater H.S.’s 1st Team All Conference and 1st Team All Sun-Coast pick. Nijah Cunningham from Clermont, FL, led South Lake H.S. and the district in rebounding and block shots. Alex Arthur was the fifth ranked player in Canada. He was also 1st Team All Star for Westhill H.S in Toronto. Will Neighbour, Hampshire, UK was named MVP at Central Park Christian from Birmingham AL. This incoming recruiting class will allow the Falcons to flourish in the competitive conference and state level.
