DAYTONA BEACH, FL. (May 21, 2010) – The Daytona State College women’s golf team won the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association Women's Golf Championship Thursday afternoon at LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach.
The three-time NJCAA Division I National Champions, shot an opening round score of 298 on Tuesday, May 18 following the delayed start of the tournament due to rain on Monday, May 17. Posting a 280 score on Wednesday, the Lady Falcons led the tournament with a 43 stroke lead and a two-day total of 578. The Lady Falcons clinched the championship after shooting 291 on the final day of play - 60 shots ahead of McLennan Community College (Waco, TX) who finished second with a three-day total of 929 (312-309-308). 2009 champions, Redland Community College (El Reno, OK), finished third with a three-day total of 947 (320-315-312).
Lady Falcons freshman, Mitsuki Katahira (Japan), won the individual title after dominating tournament with an eight-stroke overall lead. Her three day total was 211 (73-64-74). Team mate Amy West (Valrico, FL) tied for second place with a total of 219 (72-77-70); Ericka Schneider (Bradenton, FL) finished fourth overall with a total of 221 (77-70-74); Jennifer Gartin (Port St. Lucie, FL) placed fifth with a three-day score of 223 (77-73-73); and Ashley Mooney (Port St. Lucie, FL) finished seventh overall with a total of 225 (76-73-76). Competing as an individual player, Lady Falcons freshmen Cassie Cleary (Punta Gorda, FL), finished eighth with a total of 227 (79-77-71).

Daytona State College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Florida Community College Athletics Association Mid-Florida Conference. The Falcons currently compete in seven Division I NJCAA sports including Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, Fast-Pitch Softball, Women's Golf and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving.
